the truth - by Dan Amosin

Which came first: the chicken or the egg? I am not sure. The process of finding out is what's more important. Man is distinguished from animals by his capacity to reason out. That's why only human beings can laugh, because only they can discern the difference between what is and what should be. The quality of one's reasoning power is not strained by tolerance for contrary opinions. While earnest advocacy of an issue is guaranteed in the free market of ideas, intolerance of other views is anathema to the pursuit of harmony in diversity so essential in a democratic society. If you believe you have the most adequate grasp of what is the truth, then let your idea be tested and adopted in the free market by willing believers. Don't ram it down the throats of those who have contrary views. Prevail in the arena by the strength of your reason, not by reason of your strength. Progress is achieved when thesis meets antithesis, resulting in synthesis. There are always two sides to a coin and a single issue can in fact actually unravel as a mother lode of several, complex issues, each with a verity that forms a nexus to other verities and beautifully intertwined in a single tapestry. So, quit the irascible pontifications appurtenant only to omniscience or polymathy, of which no mortal is possessed.
