KASLA NARUPUROP A KAWAYAN: DANIW DAYTOY?
9/30/2006 3:45:01 PM

Pagay-ayamantayo laeng daytoy, okey?

Agputartayo ti "daniw".

The first step is to write a sentence, you know, the kind that has a subject and a predicate, kunansa ni Miss Simay idi:

TI AYAT KET MAYSA A SABONG.

Iyarigtay ngarud daytoy a "sentence" iti maysa a sanganayon a kawayan. Each word in the sentence ket mayarig met kadagiti linawas ti kawayan.

Second step. Alaem daytoy a "sanganayon a kawayan" ket rupuropem free style samonto urnosen dagitoy a kas "linawas" wenno "binatog" ti partuatem a "daniw".

TI AYAT/ KET MAYSA/ A SABONG

Ti ayat
Ket maysa
A sabong.

Mabalin met ti compound sentence a kuna ni Miss Simay:

TI AYAT KET MAYSA A SABONG NGA AGSANTAK ITI PUSO

Ti ayat
Ket maysa a sabong
Nga agsantak
Iti
Puso.

Complex sentence

TI AYAT KET MAYSA A SABONG ITI PUSO KET TAPNO AGSANTAK TARIPATUEN ITI DUNGNGO KEN PANANGILALA INGGAT TANEM.

Ti ayat
Ket maysa a sabong iti puso
Ket tapno agsantak
Taripatuen iti dungngo
Ken panangilala
Inggat
Tanem.

Dakayo metten...

Never mind what the purists would say.
Just have fun.

 HOW TO WRITE THE NEW
6/27/2006 6:17:04 PM

It's probably the last verse form developed in the 20th century, and certainly the 21st century's newest.

The "ugalino", a new verse form developed by Iluko.com writer Bert Ugalino, consists of two quatrains, the second of the two quatrains being a juggled form of the first. Just like a reflection, a mirroring effect of the first.

The ugalino is likened to a landscape painting. The first four lines of the poem are the "trees along the banks of a placid lake." The second four lines are the "mirror effect" or the "reflection" of the trees on the lake.

To write an ugalino, establish the poem's thought or idea in the first stanza. Then repeat each line of the first stanza to form the second stanza, always bearing in mind that the first and the eighth line of the poem should always be the same. Repeat lines 2, 3 & 4 as the 5th, 6th & 7th lines in no particular line order. The 8th line is always the same as the first line.

Example 1

1..........Stripped to bare nothing
2..........You're sprawled on soft satin
3..........Nothing between your body & my tongue
4..........Just your perfume & bikini lines

5.(3).....Nothing between your body & my tongue
6.(4).....Just your perfume & bikini lines
7.(2).....You're sprawled on soft satin
8.(1).....Stripped to bare nothing

Example 2. Carefully crafted the "alliterating", mirroring second stanza provides a delightful distortion of the first.

1............ You
2............ taught me
3............ how to eat
4............ ripe mangoes

5.(4)....... Ripe mangoes
6.(2)....... taught me
7.(3)....... how to eat
8.(1)...... you!

Example 3. The ugalino is whimsical

I didn't even know your name
Now you and the night are gone-
You left me
& your panty.

You left me
& your panty.
Now you and the night are gone
I didn't even know your name.

Example 4. The ugalino can be sensual!

Molasses on silk
Tongue probes
Shallow screams
Deep pleasure

Tongue probes
Deep pleasure
Shallow screams:
Molasses on silk.

Example 5. The ugalino is capable of conveying deep feelings.

The altar is black with tar
& there are skid-marks
Before the chalice of tears:
We spill His blood!

& there are skid-marks
Before the chalice of tears.
We spill His blood:
The altar is black with tar.

Example 6. The ugalino, minimalism.

I
am
not
me.

Not
me.
Am
I?

Example 7. The ugalino can get philosophical.

Once a caterpillar
with a future:
A butterfly
with a past.

A butterfly
with a past
with a future:
Once a caterpillar.

The ugalino is haiku or senryu on steroids.

I find this verse form to be the most fun to write. I love its simplicity. Its purity.
