Kara Kruz: Sins of Desire (6th palkat)

Kalis Marco S, M.R.B.

Line dancing is as sinful as any other type of dancing, with its sexual gestures and touching. It is an incitement to lust.
-Reverend Ian Paisley, The Journey

Part V, Da Formula 5

Disclaimer: This work of fiction is based on true events and confessions during tita Judge Aramina’s trials and tribulations. Names, places, and events are slightly modified and altered not to sensationalize but to hide the true personae and identities of the characters and any similarities to your real life experiences are purely accidental, co-incidental, and unintended. Peks man, cross my heart and hope to die. Discretion is strongly advised as some readers might find the contents just a little offensive.

(apparently, I have to keep it non-erotic, non-explicit, and non-wet dreamy, tita Judge Aramina can only hope)

I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story baby just say yes
-Taylor Swift, Love Story

Lust.

I wanted to ask tita Doña Ana Rosalea what is ‘lust’ the other day, idi naminsan a kalman, but I did not know how to enunciate.

“You are too young Kal-EL, a musmos na paslit, you are too young to be thinking of lust, and Kal-EL, I am your tita Elisa, your tita Ana Rosalea is currently in Eastern Europe.”

Deing, I thought to myself, I did it again, I can never tell who is tita Ana or tita Elisa, they are like twin zebras, both pretty and blonde. And probably tita Elisa is not only a geneticist, but she is a mentalist too, she was able to read my mind.

“And Kal-EL, I think Reverend Ian Paisley mistook Horseshoe country couple dancing for line dancing, because I had seen people line dance in Manchester, and of course, the pinoys in New York, Montreal, and Toronto, I had not seen any touching or sexual gestures that could be a precursor for lust.”

“And Reverend Ian Paisley couldn’t be referring to riverdance…although Kal-EL, when men see women doing the riverdance…and their boobs bobbing…that could be a precursor for lus…eh, you are really too young Kal-EL to understand lust.”

Tita Geneticist Elisa was born in Budapest Hungary but grew up in Manchester so she has this nasal English accent. She’s married to Deacon Karl Marks, born Karlus Markus in Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya. They have one son, Christopher, they call him Topet.

I got tired of waiting
Wondering if you were ever coming around
My faith in you was fading

Tita Lisa May’s singing voice suddenly became clearer as we approached the KMSS compound, the Karmanet Sarisari Store Naga City branch. Tita Detective Preci turned off the motorcycle engine, and the stereo band became more stereo. We walked toward the gathering and true enough, people were line dancing at tita Lisa May and the band’s rendition of Love Story by tita Taylor Swift.

Tita Lara Mae still holding my hand so we wouldn’t be separated looked around for Tia Sidni the security consultant for KMSS. Alma was with tita Preci.

Tia Sidni the security consultant is tito Karm’s aunt. Tita Lara Mae spotted her at the right side of the line dancing groups.

There were two groups of line dancers:

At the right side, my mommy Miss Brenda was leading the group which included tita Rosario, tito Karm, Tia Sidni the security consultant, tito Karm’s Apong Biron and his nun wife, tita Vicky and her husband priest, tita Ana Maria and her husband also named Mark, Judge Jesus Cuyegyeg and his wife Atty Magdalena, tita Vice President Judge Aramina and tito Mayor Aramiro, tita Diana and tita Adina and their husbands, tita Rosario’s parents, and a few other close friends.

At the left side, Auntie Kleng-Kleng aka Lovely Lyn, my mommy’s sister was leading the other group which included tita Elisa and her husband Deacon Karl Marks, Deacon Karl Marks’ aunt Tia Sidni, Deacon Karl Marks’ apong Biron and his nun wife, tita Erika and her husband Enrico Nga, a native of Naga City, tita Ma. Nancy B and her husband Captain Angel Gabriel, tita Henrietta and her husband tito Giancarlo Istante, tita Mayora Annette and her boypren, Heneral Ramas and tita Cristi, Colonel Gingkgo Talunasan and wife, and some other close friends.

Tito Ron, tita Alysa aka Kumander Lady Ag-Ag, tita Nurse Norida, and tito Abdul were with tita Ana Rosalea and apong Don Huan somewhere in Eastern Europe.

I could see that the line dancers were having fun. Tita Mayora Annette was laughing. Tita Atty. Magdalena was laughing. Tita Henrietta was laughing…hmn, probably, lust must be fun.

“They look like mirror-images.” Alma absentmindedly blurted.

Probably she was referring to tito karm’s family on the right side and Deacon Karl Marks’ family on the left side. For some strange co-incidence, they both have aunts named Tia Sidni, grandfathers named apong Biron married to nuns, and mother of all co-incidences, tita Rosario and tita Elisa both have sons named Christopher, and holy co-incidence, both are nicknamed Topet.

Tita Lara Mae waved at tia Sidni the security consultant. Then tita Lara Mae made some hand and fingers signal…codes? Then a few moments later, we were riding on the traysikel being driven by tita Detective Precious H. Polito. Alma was sitting on tia Sidni’s lap and I was again sitting on tita Lara Mae’s lap, I could feel her gentle breathing on top of my head…like a warm draft.

It's a love story, baby just say yes
Oh, oh,
Oh, oh
'Cause we were both young when I first saw you

tita Lisa May’s voice, being drowned by the motorcycle’s engine hum, started to fade as we drove away from the compound… Doppler effect, according to my titser in UP-IB Daycare. Then we were at the hills. Tita Detective Preci turned off the traysikel engine.

“EDO! ALEX!” Tita Precious hollered again.

“EDO! ALEX!” the hills echoed back again, then silence. I waited for the crickets to make their crickety noise but it seemed they have moved away from us.

“Let’s go under the Alukon tree.” Tia Sidni started to walk toward the tree. Tita Preci held Alma’s hand and tita Lara Mae carried me on her back, sallabay, my arms around her shoulders, my legs around her waist, probably she did not want the ledda grass blades to scratch or cut my soft smooth legs.

“Now you really look like a drama Princess Binukot Kal-EL!” Both tita Lara Mae and tita Precious laughed at Alma’s joke.

Tia Sidni paused for a while, she looked puzzled, then suddenly tia Sidni giggled, “oh I see, you are being carried by your tita Lara Mae on her back, on her bukot that’s why you are a ‘Binukot’ Kal-EL.”

Ha-ha, beri panni, I thought to myself.

Tia Sidni took out her smartphone and as we came closer to the alukon tree and the big boulder of rock, she opened her STD app.

“Is that app to detect sexually-transmitted disease Lara Mae?” Tita Preci whispered to tita Lara. I could smell the langka-flavoured candy in tita Preci’s breath. Tita Lara Mae giggled nervously. “No detective Precious, that app is for Stranger Things Detector.”

I wanted to turn on my smart phone too, but it only has three apps: One for the Chewbacca ringtone, one for the tickle me Elmo, and the other one is Barney the purle dino ringtone, I love you, you love me.

My smartphone was given to me by tita Ariana. She bought it from one of our neighbor’s garage sale in Princeton NJ. It takes two AA batteries and is made of plastic.

“Remember Kal-EL, I will always be here for you if you need me.” Tita Ariana made that promise when she was playing the piano in my walk-in closet in Princeton and I was sitting on her lap:

“So take… these broken wings…”

Tita Ariana was the one who named me Kal-EL, apparently after her boypren ‘Kalil’.

I wanted a few times to call her using my smartphone but deing, I forgot to program tita Ariana’s number.

“No strange activity detected here under the alukon tree.” Tia Sidni closed the app and she opened another app: MSTD, More Stranger Things Detector.

Suddenly, Tia Sidni’s smartphone began to flash some lights of different colors, like a rainbow which Tia Sidni projected on the boulder of rock. Tita Precious checked the surface on the rock where she made a mental note before we returned back to the KMSS. The letter engravings she found earlier were still there:

SW

“Someone was here much earlier with probably the initials SW.” Tia Sidni’s voice was firm. “But what is SW?”

“Probably… Stormy…” Tita Lara Mae paused as she checked for abuos or weaver ants that might be crawling on the barks of the alukon tree. I looked up the alukon tree, it is quite tall, I mumbled.

“Like the porno queen, Lara Mae?”

“No detective Precious. Because it is SW…probably… Stormy Weathers?”

As soon as tita Lara Mae said that, there was a lightning flash that seemed to make the alukon tree glow like the Moses’ burning bush or Adam and Eve’s glowing apple tree. The rambling thunder sounded muffled.
