Attending the kite festival in long beach
05/21/2010
I heard about a kite festival going on every summer and a sand sculpture competition. So, I planned this trip for a week on August of 2007. I didn't realize, however, that this was a big event and hotel reservation is a year in advance!
Anyway, my family and I still went to the Kite Festival despite the fact that we didn't have a hotel reservation. It was a day-trip anyway. We can drive back home, worst come to worst.
Long Beach is located along the Oregon Coast. I thought that this beach was located in California all along.
Along the way, we went and picked up my daughter's friend, Jasmine, and headed to Oregon.
It was about a four-hour drive so, we were out and about at about six in the morning.
We reached the beach at about 10 am, had breakfast at a kabooze (turned into a restaurant), and headed to the Kite Festival.
The weather was perfect for kite flying as it was windy. There were thousands of kites, very colorful ones. Some competitors came as far as Japan and Europe!
The water was very cold but my children still headed to the beach and dipped their feet!
They also tested and flew their kites that they made at the kite-making booths!
